Written and directed by Iranian-born artists Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari, 'Land of Dreams' made its North American premiere at the Tribeca Festival 2022. The film was first shown at the Venice International Film Festival 2021.
A science-fiction satire featuring a star-studded cast including Matt Dillon, Anna Gunn, and Isabella Rossellini, Land of Dreams is rooted in contemporary American politics and prejudices while imagining a future both visionary and unsettling. In this near-future world, the census doesn’t just collect data—it records people’s dreams. But the purpose of this information remains unclear, even to those collecting it, like photographer Simin (Sheila Vand). As her role within the government deepens, Simin’s morals, sense of community, and personal safety are pushed to the brink.
