William Kentridge’s new work, ‘My Father is a Tree in a Forest of Fathers’ (2024), combines etching, lithography, and collage to construct a natural scene connected to the artist’s latest performance, ‘The Great Yes, The Great No’—a theatre production in which Kentridge uses the little-known journey of a ship from Marseille to Martinique during World War II as a metaphor to explore the impact of colonialism and migration.
